BAJAUR: Teachers of governmental educational institutions here on Friday staged a protest demonstration against provincial government’s proposed plan of privatisation of educational institutions and so-called reforms in teachers’ pension scheme. Scores of senior teachers as well as principals of several educational institutions also participated in the demonstration arranged by All Bajaur Teachers Association in front of the Bajaur Press Club in Khar. Calling the government’s move against the development of education sector in the province, the teachers’ leaders expressed the fear that the plan would deprive more and more children from their right to education in the newly merged districts as most of students in the areas were poor and they couldn’t afford to go to private educational institutions. The participants of the demonstration were holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands. They also chanted slogans against the federal and provincial governments for their proposed plans of privatising the public educational institutions. The teachers’ association leaders Waheeb Khan, Said Mohammad and others alleged that both the federal and provincial governments had planned to privatise the public educational institutions in the province to deprive the teachers of their right of pension. “We strongly reject the government’s proposed plan of privatisation of public educational institutions and any sort of negative reforms in the present pension scheme,” announced the teachers’ leaders. They claimed that there was nothing in the interest of either the general public or the teachers in the proposed privatisation plan. They demanded of the government to withdraw the decision swiftly to end the unrest among the teachers’ community. They also warned to hold a massive protest movement if the quarters concerned failed to meet their demands.
